This year’s concert includes more than 40 students in a variety of contemporary works. Presented by the Department of Dance and Movement Studies, this annual event features new work created by junior and senior majors and minors who have also completed coursework in dance composition. For seniors, this concert serves as the artistic capstone project of the Advanced Topics: Senior Seminar course.
Since January, choreographers have been bringing their artistic vision to form, sharing in artistic exchange with peers, department faculty and professional artist/educators. Last month, alumna Olive Prince ’99 returned to campus to provide feedback to all choreographers in the adjudication showing. Prince is a professor of dance at Drexel University. The concert also offers students the opportunity to work with the department’s Lighting Designer and Technical Director Mark Wenderlich, whose expertise supports their vision.
This year, many of the choreographers are doing double duty as the technical crew, gaining valuable training and experience with the technical aspects of concert production.
Both performances will take place in the Gearan Center for the Performing Arts Deming Dance Theatre. Immediately following both performances, there will be a short Q&A in the theatre, where students will share insights about their choreographic process.
Admission is free, though donations are welcome and support student attendance at next year’s American College Dance Association Conference. The concert often sells out. Please reserve your ticket in advance and arrive fifteen minutes before curtain.
