26 March 2026 • Outcomes Levine ’26 Finds her Path in Emergency Medicine

Hands-on EMT experience, athletics and academics shape her journey to the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

Haley Levine ’26 will attend the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing to pursue a Master of Professional Nursing. A double-sport athlete, Levine competes on the William Smith Swimming and Diving and Tennis teams. She is also a member of HWS EMS, Hillel and Hai Timiai honor society.

From a young age, Levine knew she wanted to work in healthcare, inspired in part by her grandmother’s career in nursing. She was drawn to a forward-facing role that would allow her to work closely with patients.

Levine naturally gravitated toward the HWS EMS program and discovered a passion for emergency medicine that solidified her interest in trauma care. Her favorite aspect of the role was being on-call or ‘ride time,’ which provided valuable, hands-on experience. Balancing academics, athletics, campus jobs and volunteer commitments throughout her undergraduate career, Levine says she developed the ability to operate effectively in high-pressure situations.

As a psychology major, she gained a deeper understanding of the importance of compassion and patience in healthcare, particularly in urgent settings. “People call you on their worst day,” Levine says. “As an EMT, your job is to make that day a little better.”

Levine says she thrives on a full schedule. “I work better when I’m busy. Being in season year-round requires strong time management,” she explains. She came to view practices as a form of reset—time to step away from academics and focus on her sport. The discipline she developed over four years has prepared her well for the intensity of a graduate nursing program.

Levine notes that the University of Pennsylvania’s program stands apart from many others by offering a master’s degree rather than solely an accelerated bachelor’s pathway, allowing her to enter the profession with advanced training. She looks ahead to a career in critical care and is considering roles as an ICU nurse, nurse practitioner or potentially an anesthesiologist.

As a student, Levine completed a 2025 summer internship at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J. On campus, she is also a member of Sigma Delta Pi, the national Hispanic honor society, studied abroad in Buenos Aires and served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She earned Liberty League All-Academic honors in swimming and diving, regularly placing in the top five of her events and earning Liberty League Diver of the Week recognition. In tennis, she was named a CSC Academic All-District selection, an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and a multi-year Liberty League All-Academic honoree. She primarily competed at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions and earned All-Liberty League Doubles honorable mention recognition.
