12 March 2026 • Alums Sorbello '23, MHEL '25 Joins Colgate
In her new role as Assistant Director of New Student Programs, Eleanor Sorbello ’23, MHEL ’25 supports students as they transition to college.
After helping shape student life at Hobart and William Smith as a graduate assistant, Eleanor Sorbello ’23, MHEL ’25 is now guiding students through their first steps at Colgate University as an Assistant Director of New Student Programs. In her role, she runs orientation initiatives and helps students transition successfully into campus life.
“The opportunities I had at HWS prepared me well,” says Sorbello. "Thanks to the two years' worth of practical, hands-on work experience, the MHEL program has made me ready to work with new generations of students. I’m excited to see what the future brings."
In addition, Sorbello advises academic and dance clubs and the first-year honor society. She also serves as Head Pom Coach in the Athletics Department.
As a graduate assistant while enrolled in HWS’ Master of Arts in Higher Education Leadership program, Sorbello worked with Student Activities, coordinating services for and monitoring events to ensure they complied with applicable rules and regulations, managing club sports and developing marketing materials to promote campus events.
She also co-led the Alternative Spring Break trip to Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield, Va. While there, students gained a behind-the-scenes understanding of park management, assisted with constructing new bunkhouses and cleared trails in preparation for the park's busy season.
Sorbello graduated magna cum laude in philosophy and Greek and Roman studies. She was inducted into Eta Sigma Phi, the national honor society for students studying Latin and Greek. She studied abroad in Athens, Greece. On campus, she was an O’Laughlin Ambassador for the Office of Admissions and was a member of the Kinetic Dance Collective, Campus Activities Board, Random Acts of Kindness, HWS Mindfulness Club and College Democrats.
