Parent Information

The Office of Human Resources manages the student employment function at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and is located on the first floor of Gulick Hall. Our office partners with academic and administrative offices on campus to provide employment opportunities to HWS students.

Student Employment provides work experience and financial support to students, while simultaneously providing quality workers for the Colleges. Almost every academic department and administrative office employs students in some capacity.  Working on campus can benefit students in many ways, including:

• Earn extra money
• Meet new people and make friends
• Develop communication and other work-related skills
• Learn time management
• Recommendation letters and personal references for future employment or education

Statement of Professional Conduct

Student employees are expected to adhere to Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ employment policies, practices, procedures, dress code, and standards of conduct. To avoid any misunderstanding, it is recommended that students obtain clarification regarding such matters from their supervisor when beginning an assignment.

Statement Regarding Work Study Awards

Students may be allowed to work beyond their work study award, depending on the department. It is the responsibility of the student and the supervisor to monitor earnings to be sure the award amounts are not exceeded.
