Shore oversees Share Our Strength, one of the nation's leading anti-hunger and anti-poverty organizations. Since its founding in 1984, Share Our Strength has raised more than $70 million and has funded more than 1,000 organizations. In “The Cathedral Within,” Shore offers a blueprint for charitable action in the next century.
In 1997, Shore launched his first for-profit enterprise, Community Wealth Ventures, Inc., to provide strategic counsel to corporations, foundations and nonprofit organizations interested in creating community wealth.
Shore was appointed chair of the private sector task force for the President’s Summit for America’s Future in 1997. From 1988 to 1991, he was chief of staff for U.S. Senator Robert Kerrey (D-Neb.). From 1978 to 1987, Shore served on the senatorial and presidential campaign staffs of U.S. Senator Gary Hart (D-Colo.) as legislative director and political adviser.
Shore earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is also a recipient of numerous awards, including the 1991 Humanitarian of the Year, the 1994 Washingtonian of the Year and the Caring Institute’s top 10 caring people of 1995.
