November 8, 2021

Good morning,

This weekend, Ontario County Public Health reported that the transmission of COVID-19 in the county remains high with most recent cases happening among families and those who live together. We know that at HWS, our on-campus precautions remain effective with zero cases reported among students. Of the four active cases we have right now, two are members of the Geneva community not affiliated with HWS but who were tested in Hubbs. The other two are employees who had already been self-quarantining since their exposure, greatly reducing the risk of transmission on-campus.

For students, the Hubbs Health Center remains open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for appointments. If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please call Hubbs to set up an appointment with their medical team at (315) 781-3600. The COVID-19 Resource and Testing Center, located on the east side of the building, is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m. for asymptomatic, walk-in testing.

The Colleges are also planning for the Biden administration’s new policy for employers with 100+ employees, which could begin in January. The policy would require weekly testing of all employees who are unvaccinated. We are discussing now how to handle this requirement and will share details as soon as we have them.

Finally, as we move into the final weeks of the semester, to support students’ academic success more fully, we are altering the academic building/classroom lock-up times to provide expanded access to study space.  Sunday through Thursday, the following academic buildings will be open until midnight:

  • Delancey House
  • Seneca Room
  • Demarest Hall
  • Trinity Hall
  • Merritt Hall
  • Science Building Complex (Lansing, Eaton, Rosenberg, Napier)
  • Gulick Hall
  • Smith Hall
  • Stern Hall
  •  Emerson Hall Classrooms

As a reminder, the library (1st floor) and Scandling are open until 1 a.m. and the Baron Computer lab in the Melly library atrium is open 24/7.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Sarah Kirk
