Good morning,

Throughout last week, multiple events were hosted on-campus highlighting the talent of our community. Amid the films, lectures and special events, visiting artist from the Brown Arts Institute Shivaike Shah presented a talk on his upcoming film “Medea.” Hosted by the Classics Department, Shah reflected on how Khameleon Productions’ effort to make space for BIPOC individuals in theater is reflected in the theme of belonging within the story of Medea. It was fascinating and just another great example of the wide variety of programming available to the community.

In an active weekend for HWS Athletics, Hobart College tennis won five of the six singles matches for a victory over St. Lawrence and are now 10-5 overall this season with a 1-1 mark in Liberty League play. On Saturday, Hobart lacrosse beat Wagner on Boswell Field and William Smith rowing’s varsity eight took second in Saratoga Springs. The nationally-ranked William Smith lacrosse team scored a 19-7 victory over the University of Rochester in a Liberty League contest and, with their sixth-straight win, the Herons are now 10-1 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in conference play.

Today, we welcome admitted students and their families to campus to engage in faculty-student panels, sit-in on classes, tour campus, and experience all of the things HWS has to offer. On Tuesday, Professor Rebecca Burditt will interview Professor Emeritus Lester D. Friedman, author of Citizen Spielberg. Later in the month, the Termuhlen P’09-Rauck ‘09 Family Endowed Lecture Fund in Architecture, established in honor of Professor of Architecture Stan Mathews, and Africana Studies at HWS, will host painter and printmaker LaToya M. Hobbs who will give insight to the inspiration behind her work, process and recent projects. The HWS Events Calendar has more information about these and other upcoming events.

We continue to experience a decline in symptomatic cases and students in isolation or quarantine, with only two new cases reported last week. Over the next few weeks, the Campus Logistics Team will evaluate public health recommendations as the region transitions its COVID-19 response from pandemic to endemic over the coming months.

As always, please reach out directly with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Sarah Kirk
