This Week In Photos: Point of View
- In this special edition of This Week In Photos, student photographer John Pallera ’17 curated a point of view experience of student life on campus and in the Geneva community. It’s tough to beat summer in Geneva, N.Y., so enjoy the ride!
- Looking good! At the Office of Communications, student photographers are working hard to showcase the impressive research and internships of fellow students.
- Off to the lab! As part of Professor of Chemistry Erin T. Pelkey’s summer research group, students are studying more efficient ways of attaching aryl groups to specific biological compounds.
- Finger Lakes Gift and Lounge (aka the Flounge) is the best place in town for gourmet waffles. And yes, this banana Nutella waffle is as good as it looks.
- Enjoying a beautiful summer afternoon with friends on the dock of the Bozzuto Boathouse. What better way to cool off than with a quick jump into Seneca Lake?
- Time to fire up the grill. It’s not officially summertime until there's a cookout at the Village at Odell’s Pond.
- Over the bridge and through the reeds, to the Goldstein Family Carriage House we go! This bridge, located in front of the Katherine D. Elliott Studio Arts Center, was designed and built by HWS art and architecture students.
- Adding liquid nitrogen to this matrix isolation system keeps it cool during lab work. Students in Assistant Professor of Chemistry Josh Newby’s summer research group are currently using the system to help analyze intermolecular interactions.
- Surrounded by wooden bookshelves and stained glass windows, the Blackwell Room located in Demarest Hall is the most peaceful place on campus to study or read a good book.
- Making the final throw to win a prize at the Geneva summer carnival is never as easy as it looks. Maybe next year, blue gorilla.
- Analyzing these samples of extracted milkweed DNA using spectroscopy will determine if the extraction is a success. This summer, Assistant Professor of Biology Shannon Straub is working with three William Smith students to study the genomic makeup of the milkweed family.
- Jada finds a shady spot to relax by Odell's Pond during the dog days of summer.
- Back to the lab! This nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) machine is another tool summer research students are using to help identify the structural and chemical composition of synthesized products.
- If swimming isn’t enough, give this a try! Paddle boarding is great way to see a new side of Seneca Lake.
- Smiles all around after playtime on the Quad.
- Your laptop is ready! The IT Help Desk in the Warren Hunting Smith Library supports students, faculty and staff throughout the year.
- Stopping at Geneva Gelato makes for a delicious new way to beat the heat after walking downtown.
- Let’s join geoscience research students for lunch on the Quad. There are several research projects happening this summer in the Geoscience Department, ranging from the study of lake effect snow from the Great Lakes to stationary fronts east of the Rocky Mountains.
- With festivals occurring throughout the summer, there's never a shortage of places to eat great food like these tacos at the Hispanic Festival in Geneva’s Bicentennial Park.
- After a morning of picking berries at Tomion's Farm, it’s time to taste the finished product!
- Perfect day for a sail on Seneca Lake.
- Fresh strawberries like these are always available at farmer's markets around Geneva.
- Preparing for next season in the Raleigh-Foley-Kraus Center. Come on, one more set to go!
- Who doesn’t love a good photo of the boathouse? Editing photos is one of the many responsibilities of student photographers working for the Office of Communications. Thanks for following along!
