HWS Student Philanthropy has launched a fundraiser to support the Pass the Plate food pantry. The campaign “We Are All in This Together” is a call to support and uplift all members of the HWS community during the holiday season. The fundraiser also coincides with World Day of Kindness.
“With the holidays approaching and a second wave of COVID-19 on the horizon, we anticipate that there will be a more pressing need for gifts to our food pantry,” says Taylor Perry, Assistant Director of the Annual Fund.
The fundraiser will happen Nov. 13 to Nov. 20. Anyone can donate to the effort online or using Venmo to @hwscolleges.
HWS Student Philanthropy rallies students around charitable causes and is dedicated to building a sense of philanthropy on campus. The effort is coordinated by student workers in the Office of Advancement and is open to all students.
To inspire participation, the Office of Advancement and the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education have issued a donor challenge to the student body. For every $1 donated to Pass the Plate, their offices will contribute a $1 match. A new donor challenge will be unlocked once the effort reaches $500.
Pass the Plate is also collecting nonperishable food and personal items. A Donation Box has been placed near the Post Office in the Scandling Campus Center. When the Donation Box fills, the Office of Advancement and the Salisbury Center will contribute an additional $200.
Operated through the Office of Spiritual Engagement and located in Demarest Hall, Pass the Plate opened in January 2018 and provides food and personal care items to help fight food insecurity. The food pantry is open during select hours on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
