Trustee Bill Whitaker ’73, L.H.D. ’97 will serve as a guest host on the iconic television game show Jeopardy in the wake of host Alex Trebek’s death.

Whitaker, an Emmy Award-winning correspondent on 60 Minutes, will take a turn hosting the iconic trivia competition along with journalist Katie Couric, actress Mayim Bialik, Jeopardy champion Ken Jennings and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers. Each guest host will raise funds for their favorite charities during their time behind the lectern. It has not been announced yet which charity Whitaker has selected.
Producers have yet to name a permanent replacement for long-running former host Alex Trebek, who died in Nov. 2020 of pancreatic cancer. Trebek’s last taped episode aired on Jan. 8.
Whitaker, who has served on the HWS Board of Trustees for more than 15 years, has spoken on campus on a number of occasions, including the 1997 and 2008 Commencement ceremonies. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters for his service to HWS in 1997. In 2020, Whitaker was named chair of HWS’ board committee on diversity, equity and inclusion.
