RECRUITING HWS STUDENTS

Hobart and William Smith Colleges' Career Services Office welcomes participation from all employers including all sizes of organizations. The staff at the Career Services Office will work with you to help you connect with our students. You will find much information in these pages—including contact information of individuals who will assist you and help you begin the recruiting process.

Career Services is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), and expects all employers recruiting our students to abide by NACE's Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals.

Informational Meetings

Presentations at which employers share information concerning their organization, position(s), as well as the training and hiring process can be arranged. This arrangement can be coordinated with an on-campus recruitment visit.

Job Shadow

Job shadows provide a chance for students to see what a “day in the life” looks like for someone in a particular field. The goal is to either deepen their interest in the industry or to discover that they might want to go in a different direction. Contact cso@hws.edu if you're interested in hosting students.

On-Campus Recruiting

On-campus recruiting occurs in the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education in Trinity Hall, where schedules are open to all eligible students at the Colleges.

Employers may schedule recruiting visits in order to interview candidates for full-time employment and/or internships. A deadline for resume submittal from interested candidates for prescreening can be accommodated.

Interviews are typically scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on a half-hour basis, but alternative schedules can be arranged. A staff member meets with recruiters at lunch and the end of the day in order to provide insight into the candidates' qualifications and student reactions to the interviews.

Can't Visit Campus? Organize a Resume Drop

Employers who are unable to come to campus to conduct interviews may arrange an off-campus recruitment opportunity for students. Employers may schedule a deadline for resume submittal from interested HWS students for specific positions. Employers can then review the resumes, select, and contact candidates to be interviewed at their place of business.

Internship/Job/Research Opportunities

The Career Services Office encourages employers to list job openings and have access to our students and our talented alums. If the company or organization you work for has a Handshake account, you may post jobs and internships directly on that platform. Career Services will work with employers to schedule on-campus recruiting visits to meet HWS students to interview them for full or part-time employment. If requested, we will also arrange for employers to interview by phone or video conference.
