21 October 2024 • Alums De Nose '10 to Highlight Mentorship's Impact on Success

Non-profit leader’s visit will explore how different experiences and viewpoints can lead to success. 

Motivational speaker, author and entrepreneur Dan De Nose ’10 will share insights on professional and personal growth through mentorship and exposure to diverse perspectives during his visit to campus on Thursday, Oct. 24.

De Nose’s talk, “The Power of Exposure: Lessons of Success from Highly Effective Mentors,” is based on his book of the same name. He will focus on lessons learned from experienced mentors who have guided their protégés toward success, emphasizing how different viewpoints play a pivotal role in shaping destinies. The talk will be held at 4:45 p.m. in the Seneca Room at the Centennial Center for Leadership. 

The event is free and open to the public. 

Following the event, De Nose will be selling and signing copies of his book, The Power of Exposure: Lessons of Success from Highly Effective Mentors. 

While on campus, De Nose will meet with students, including those in the First-Year Seminar "Exploring Community: Relationships, Happiness and Service." He will also attend a networking lunch at the Adams Intercultural Center hosted by Career Services and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

De Nose is the founder and executive director of the nonprofit Leaders of the 21st Century, a professional development organization for youth in urban communities that he first envisioned at Hobart and William Smith. He previously served as the senior manager in the Newark Public Schools district, a deputy director for community advocacy for iReform, a program coordinator for Prudential Financial, a program coordinator for Brick City Serves and an aide to former Newark Mayor and now Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.). 

After graduating from HWS with a degree in rhetoric of leadership, an individual major, De Nose earned his Master of Public Administration from Rutgers University. On campus, De Nose was a member of the HWS Debate team, HWS Chorale and Cantori and was a student Trustee. He received the Deans Citizenship Award, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award, the Dexheimer Student Trustee Recognition Award and the President’s Civic Leadership Award. 

As a graduate student, he completed a fellowship with USAID Global Development in Cape Town, South Africa, and worked on a public policy case study with Seoul Metropolitan in Korea.
