25 August 2025 Career Trajectory: Nathan Deller '27 at Gallagher

Nathan Deller '27 has explored the insurance industry this summer as a sales intern at Gallagher Insurance, Risk Management and Consulting in Chicago.

Career Plan Before HWS: Marketing, sales, public relations

Day-to-Day Responsibilities: Meets with other interns for public speaking challenges. Assists in tasks from brokers. Learns about the industry.

"Coming into this summer, I knew very little about insurance. However, I’ve found that success in this field requires a strong combination of financial knowledge and social skills—both of which I’ve developed during my internship."

Mentored Research: Statistical analysis of marital wage inequalities and their connection to marriage satisfaction and divorce with Associate Professor of Economics Christina Houseworth.  

Experience: Office of Admissions O'Laughlin Ambassador, Tutor Corps site coordinator, HWS Athletics Game Day worker, HWS Athletic Communications assistant, Economics teaching assistant, Orange Key member, Orientation Mentor, Druid Society member

Study Abroad: Seville, Spain in fall of 2025 

Athletics: Deller is a member of the Hobart volleyball team. In his first two seasons with the Statesmen, he has played in 15 matches, averaging 0.90 kills per set, 0.36 blocks per set and 1.23 points per set. Deller was named a United Volleyball Conference All-Academic this spring.
