14 August 2026 New Religious Studies Fellow Publishes Research on Queer Migration and Canadian Judaism
Gleibman’s latest research explores the connections between queer migration, Jewish identity and Canadian cultural life.
Hobart and William Smith's Department of Religious Studies is celebrating a new scholarly achievement from Postdoctoral Fellow of Judaic Studies Shlomo Gleibman, whose article, Writing Canadian Judaism through Queer Migration, has been published in the latest issue of the peer-reviewed journal Canadian Jewish Studies.
Gleibman's research examines how queer migration reshapes understandings of Jewish identity, belonging and community within the Canadian context. Through literary and cultural analysis, the article explores the ways migration narratives intersect with questions of sexuality, religion and national identity, offering new perspectives on contemporary Canadian Jewish life.
Published by the Association for Canadian Jewish Studies, Canadian Jewish Studies is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to scholarship on the Canadian Jewish experience. Since its founding in 1993, the journal has featured research spanning history, literature, sociology, religious studies, gender studies and related fields.
Gleibman joined the Hobart and William Smith faculty this year, where his teaching and research focus on Jewish studies, queer theory and the intersections of religion, literature and culture. His latest publication reflects the interdisciplinary scholarship that students encounter in HWS classrooms, connecting questions of identity and migration with broader conversations about religion and society.
