HWS Shuttle Service

Campus Safety organizes the operation of the evening shuttle program, which runs each night of the week during the academic year. Shuttles are owned and operated by Finger Lakes Limousine and run on the days and times listed below. Shuttles run a fixed route with fixed stops. Students are encouraged to download the BusWhere for HWS mobile app. This free app is available for both iOS and Android and allows users to view shuttle routes and see the shuttle(s) moving along their route in real time.

Shuttle to Walmart: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

Day and Start Time Day and End Time
Sunday at 7 p.m. Monday at 12:30 a.m.
Monday at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 12:30 a.m.
Tuesday at 7 p.m. Wednesday at 12:30 a.m.
Wednesday at 7 p.m. Thursday at 12:30 a.m.
Thursday at 7 p.m. Friday at 1 a.m.
Friday at 7 p.m. Saturday at 2 a.m.
Saturday at 7 p.m. Sunday at 2 a.m.

Students who wish to use the shuttle do not need to call for a ride, but will need to plan ahead and be at the designated shuttle stop when the shuttle is scheduled to arrive. Drivers must maintain a tight schedule in order to arrive at stops on time. Drivers are not allowed to stop anywhere other than the designated stops and will only wait at each stop for a brief amount of time. Drivers may not stop if they do not see any potential passengers waiting and they need to make up time to get back on schedule.

Shuttle stops and approximate times that the shuttle will arrive are listed below. Shuttle schedules differ depending on the day of the week to accommodate the Walmart route. At minimum, a shuttle will stop at each destination once per hour from 7 p.m. until the scheduled end time (see above for hours of operation). BusWhere for HWS gives students the most accurate view of the shuttle routes running each night.

SAFETY ESCORTS

Campus Safety Officers are available to act as an escort for students with special needs and any students when they require a safe way to get around campus, especially students who are walking alone after dark.

If you need an escort, please contact the Office of Campus Safety (ext. 3656) from a safe location and wait there until a uniformed officer picks you up. Campus Safety does not typically provide this service during the hours that the Campus Shuttle is operating unless there are unusual circumstances.

SAFE TRAVEL TIPS

  • Walk in pairs (trios are better); do not walk alone.
  • Walk in well-lit areas
  • Plan your route. Remember the location of safe areas and emergency phones.
  • Use designated walkways.
  • Tell someone of your destination and expected time of return.
  • Do not carry large amounts of cash.
  • Do not stop for strangers.
  • Do not hitchhike.

Regional Transportation Service

In addition to the Colleges’ shuttle system, students have access to the Regional Transportation Service (bus system) operating with Ontario County with a variety of stops in Geneva (route 261), and connecting them to the Canandaigua and Rochester area. The Colleges’ near campus stop is across from Jackson, Potter, and Rees Halls (on-campus) with stops to Walmart, Wegmans, and other local destinations. RTS has connections at the Geneva Transit Hub. The local bus system is $1 per rider, and more information, such as additional stops and schedules, can be found here.
