"I like that at HWS, you are not limited to working with numbers, but are taught about how to apply data in real life and how to think about it ethically. This summer, I’ll be doing data management with Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics and Computer Science T. Alden Gassert. I’m very excited for this opportunity as it’ll allow me to apply what I learned in real life, and it’ll help with future internships and jobs."

Women, people of color and low-income students have historically been disadvantaged when it comes to participating in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields. This program is set up sequentially, which helps all students find support and build community with a cohort of peers completing the steps of the program at the same time. Not having traditional prerequisite math courses encourages students to participate, regardless of their past experiences or apprehensions toward mathematics.
