First Year Writing Prize

With the help of a generous donation, the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Writing Colleagues program sponsored a yearly First Year Writing Prize that celebrates outstanding writing by First Year students.

Each year, faculty nominated written assignments in a wide range of genres: past nominations have included research papers, narrative essays, poetry, lab reports, even blog entries and podcasts. Students were invited to revise and submit their piece, and all submissions were evaluated by a group of jurors from across HWS. Up to three winners received a monetary prize and publication, and all students who submited nominated essays were recognized at a reception.
