Hobart and William Smith is proud to offer a vibrant Greek Life system dating back to 1840. There are officially seven fraternities and one sorority recognized: Chi Phi, Delta Chi, Kappa Alpha Society, Kappa Sigma, Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Phi Society, Theta Delta Chi, and Theta Phi Alpha. Greek organizations undergo an annual accreditation process each year to retain their status and affiliation with the Colleges. The Five Pillars Model reviews each organization on: Academics, Service, Philanthropy, Greek Development and Stewardship.

The HWS Greek community plays a pivotal role in the campus experience for HWS students. Each recognized organization hosts social and service-based events, attends Hobart and William Smith Student Government meetings, participates in Greek Week, serves on Greek Council, and maintain a Greek residence on campus through Student Engagement.

Greek organizations are composed of brothers and sisters who are active in every facet of campus life including: varsity athletics, student leadership positions, club sports and various clubs. Greek organizations are uniquely positioned to offer a social outlet to promote brotherhood and sisterhood, while improving the residential experience at the Colleges. Greek Life and individual organizations sponsor several signature events, including philanthropic throughout the year:

  • Greek Week
  • Day of Service
  • Greek recruitment weeks
  • Charity events like the color run (TDX) and turkey trot (PSK)
